The other day Brooklyn, baby J, and I were sitting in the couch together. They were sitting right next to each other, very close. Baby Justin leaned over, put his head in that little space between her chin and her shoulder, laying his cheek right over her heart. He wrapped his arm around her tummy and they sat there, holding each other. Brooklyn was very, very still, and I could tell that she was trying not to move a muscle, hardly even breathing as not to end the moment (so was I). As still as a statue, she said in her little voice...
"Mommy, my heart is beeping right into my tummy."
I knew just what she meant, and tears came to my eyes. I said"Why? Is it because you love our baby so much?"
She nodded ever so slightly and said "Yes, my heart is beeping so fast!"
I sat there watching this spontaneous, gentle cuddle between a big sister and her baby brother, and I knew I would never forget that moment. It was the kind of moment when you love someone so much and your heart is so full, you feel as though it is going to beat right out of your chest.
I hope life is full of these moments for her. For all my children.
They have given me so many, I can't even count.
